Opportunities From: Habitat Connect

Volunteer: Mackie Drive Construction

Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod works in partnership with families in need to build homes, hope, lives, and community.

Volunteers and future homeowners build every Habitat Cape Cod home.  Construction occurs on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 AM to 3:15 PM (please arrive 15 minutes early to check in). The Site Supervisor is Mike Sullivan. Mike sets all schedules and determines the number of volunteers needed for each workday based on that day's work plan.  Mike will assign tasks before work starts and will provide instructions as needed throughout the day.

All construction shifts are waitlist only as we must cycle volunteers on-site due to the immense interest in volunteering at build sites. If you are interested in volunteering, you must sign up using the waitlist. The shift quantity will display "0 of 1" and "full." PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE WAITLIST. We will review those waitlisted.  *An email will be sent three days before the build day to those selected and not selected to volunteer with further instruction. If you are interested in participating in this build, please FAN the program, and you will be notified when shifts are available.  The Mackie Drive, Brewster build consists of two homes (one three-bedroom home and one two-bedroom home). As a result, opportunities to volunteer may be limited. We have a morning break with snacks and devotions at 10 AM.  Lunch is at noon; please bring your lunch with you. Volunteers under 18 must email a minor waiver to sandra@habitatcapecod.org before they can sign up for any shift.

You must check in upon your arrival on site.

How to Prepare

Mike Sullivan is the Site Supervisor. He will provide you with your work assignment and ensure you have the proper training to perform the task.

What to Wear

Sturdy boots are best; sneakers are okay. Open-toed shoes are not allowed on the site; no CROCS!  Hat Work gloves Sunscreen Dress in layers

What to Bring *Note: Tools are also provided on-site.

Hammer Utility knife Tape measure Pencil Safety glasses Other tools you deem helpful. Lunch  Water bottle

We have had a couple of inquiries about our construction site weather policies and wanted to share them. Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has a weather policy in place that, as a general rule, we will close the construction sites to volunteers if the weather is under 25 degrees or over 85 degrees. We also know that it's not so easy to decide what 25 degrees really is; the sun, windchill, working inside vs outside, and time of the day all factor into this decision. The same goes for summer weather; the construction site hitting 86 degrees at 2 PM while painting inside an air-conditioned house differs from shingling all day in the sun. The site supervisor will monitor the situation and make decisions to the best of their knowledge.

We want to remind you that you are encouraged to cancel for the day if you feel it’s too hot or cold. Please remove yourself from the shift waitlist via Habitat Connect. Your health and safety come first; you are your best advocate!
